Andalusia has been very fortunate compared to other regions in Spain. And the COVID-19 curve is still going downwards. To make sure this curve continues to go downwards the Andalusian government has decided on a preventive face mask requirement.
What has changed?
Not much has changed with the new requirement, because face mask was already being used in most places that are now required by law. On holidays in Spain you will have to use it when walking the street, but little else.
In public transport face mask is still required – no change there.
In the car: No face mask required unless you share the car with others that are not part of your group.
On restaurants and bars: No face mask required while seated. Only when you leave your table is it required.
On terraces: No face mask required while seated. Only when you pass through public areas to/from the terrace is it required.
By the pool: No face mask required while seated/laying. Also not when swimming in the pool. Only when you go to/from your sun lounger is it required.
On the beach: No face mask required while seated/laying. Also not when swimming in the sea. Only when you go to/from your sun lounger is it required.
On the street face mask is now required. Until now most personnes did use them on the streets anyway, so no major change there.
On the market face mask is still required – no change there.
In shops face mask is now required. Until now most personnes did use them when shopping anyway, so also no major change there.
In nature: No face mask required, except when passing others.
In conclusion it is fair to say that using face mask is unpleasant, but given the worldwide pandemic we have to adapt and accept some changes – also during our holidays. And the new face mask requiment in Andalusia does not change much – it just makes it mandatory where you would probably be using it anyway.
Remember that prevention is a good thing. It is a preventive measure to avoid that Andalusia ends up in a worse situation – as seen in Cataluña and other Northern regions.
